Advances in Ion-Beam Techniques and Applications

Co-Organized by the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) and the Materials Research Society (MRS)

Understanding of ion-beam-matter interactions and the use of new facilities for precision ion-beam processing and analysis will enable scientists across the globe to initiate novel and innovative studies to address the needs of the materials science community as well as the needs of the industry. Ion beam techniques allow the fabrication of high, accurate nanometer-sized structures and can be considered an essential tool for realizing self organization, which is one of the most fundamental concepts of nanoscience. Also, ion-beam techniques provide unique capabilities for exploring and custom tailoring the properties, structure, and configuration of materials for biomedical, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, environmental, and energy production applications. This symposium welcomes high-quality contributions from researchers working in various cross-disciplinary fields and dealing with emerging applications of ion beam techniques and facilities that will play a critical role in progressing the science and technology of the ion-beam and materials community.

Topics will include (but will not be limited to):

• Basic ion-beam interactions and simulations
• Nanophase and nanostructure formation by ion beam techniques
• Photonic, plasmonic properties of nanocomposites and self-assembled periodic structures
• Advances in ion-beam microscopy and accelerators
• Biomedical applications (cell adhesion, drug delivery, DNA sequencing, mutation, etc.)
• Pharmaceutical applications (AMS applications and advances)
• Environment applications and devices
• Energy and power-generation applications
