1. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
1D. Scanning Probe Microscopy and Nanotechnology
Scanning Probe Microscopy is one of the major tools responsible for the emergence of Nanotechnology. Over the last two decades, the scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques have been among the major driving forces behind a colossal progress in understanding materials at the nanoscale, physico-chemical properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, and composite materials. SPM helps solving various materials challenges in the fields of energy harvesting, semiconductor processing, self-assembly, biotechnology and life sciences. Interdisciplinary nature of SPM and its importance for fabrication, characterization, and control of nanomaterials and nanostructures naturally links researchers working in different areas of material sciences and engineering, biophysics, condensed matter, and instrumentation development. We believe that the interdisciplinary nature of this symposium will attract strong participation both academia and industry.
The main objective of the symposium is to gather leading SPM researchers in order to discuss the latest advances of scanning probe microscopy in various frontier areas of material science, nanoscience, biophysics and nanotechnology. It is paramount to discuss the new results in the multidisciplinary environment of MRS in order to bridge fundamental understanding of material behaviors at the nanoscale and technologically important problems.
