Joint Symposium with

Symposium 19: Photovoltaics, Solar Energy Materials, and Thin Films

Photovoltaics is one of the green energy technologies with projected capabilities for terawatt production. Development of new materials, low-cost thin-film technologies, and device fabrication processes are key in the advancement of this fast-growing high-tech industry. This symposium will give professors, scientists, and students an excellent opportunity to discuss and share the developments in photovoltaics and related materials. The technical program will include oral and poster sessions.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

• Thin-film solar cells and materials
• Nanomaterials for photovoltaics
• Polymers in photovoltaics
• Photoelectrochemical devices
• Material characterization
• Optoelectronic studies of devices and films
• Film growth on large areas for photovoltaic applications

A tutorial, Photovoltaics and Solar Energy Materials, will be held on Sunday, August 16. Further information is available at: http://www.cie.unam.mx/IMRC2009.

Invited speakers (tentative) include:

Angus Rockett (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), “The Surface Science of CuInSe2”
Bernard Kippelen (Georgia institute of technology), “Organic photovoltaics: status and promise”
David Cahen (Weizmann Inst. of Science), “The mysteries of grain boundaries in polycrystalline thin film photovoltaic materials and cells”
Neelkanth Dhere (Florida Solar Energy Center), “Challenges in flexible packaging of PV modules: a Review”
