Corrosion is the deterioration of a material because of reaction with its environment. This phenomenon has a huge negative impact in many industrial processes and infrastructure. In USA only, the direct costs of metallic corrosion are about 4.2% GNP. Unfortunately, corrosion has many serious technological, health, and safety consequences to our society. In addition, corrosion contributes to waste, with dangerous environmental implications through processes and materials failure. In order to fight properly against corrosion, the practices and principles of corrosion science and engineering must be well understood, as well as the interaction of chemical, physical, metallurgical and mechanical properties of materials, the nature of the environment and corrosion testing. Traditionally, this symposium brings together researchers and students various disciplinary fields to discuss their achievements and future research trends.
This symposium is focused on the various corrosion processes affecting materials performance, theoretical studies to practical application cases. It is expected that oral and poster sessions will include discussions on the state of the art of materials behavior exposed to aggressive environments as well as the development and application of protection methods.
